19 Nov 1 John 2:15-17 Don’t Love the World #250
Warning!!!!! Who doesn’t love a warning on a Monday morning, right? My Bible has a warning in it and I know if mine does, then yours does too. The header in my Bible directly before 1 John 2:15-17 says, “A warning not to love the world.”
To catch you up to speed, if you are new to the blog today, then I have been sharing from 1 John for quite some time. If you have missed the prior posts leading up to this one, you can see them here. Today I want to continue with 1 John and share about the warning. 1 John 2:15-17 says “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
This passage is so straightforward and I think it’s so important that we take it seriously. As this verse says, the love of the Father and the love of the world are incompatible. Why? Because none of the things in or of this world come from the Father. Lust? Pride? Allurement of things? Obsession with status? Gratification of Flesh? None of these things will last. They will all waste away. They will all leave you feeling empty and dry. They are all just a distraction from where your hope should be which is in Jesus!
You absolutely cannot crave after the things of this world and love the Father at the same time. The two simply can’t co-exist. So, what do you need to turn away from? What things of this world are you currently lusting after? What distractions do you currently have in your life that are keeping you from running after the Father and living according to his Word and will?
