1 John 4:7-8 God is Love #260
God is Love | 1 John 4:7-8
1 John 4:7-8 says “Those who are loved by God, let his love continually pour from you to one another, because God is love. Everyone who loves is fathered by God and experiences an intimate knowledge of him. The one who doesn’t love has yet to know God, for God is love.”
This passage is absolutely beautiful. Do you want to walk in love and love others as God has called you to do? Guess what needs to happen first? You need to receive his love! The more you seek the Father and he pours into you, the more you are able to pour out love to others. I want to remind you that God’s love is not just going to automatically pour out onto you. Just like if your car needs to be filled up with gas, you need to take it to the gas station to re-fuel, the same holds true for your life with Christ. You need to seek him and when you do, he will re-fuel you with his love.
I love what the rest of the passage says, “Everyone who loves is fathered by God and experiences an intimate knowledge of him.” Wow! The love this passage is talking about will come through intimacy as you spend time with him. What happens in a marriage when both husband and wife spend time together? They grow in their love and become more intimate with one another emotionally, physically, spiritually, etc. Well you and the Father are no different; the more you spend time with him, the more you will be able to encounter and experience his love.
As I have said before and just as 1 John 4:7-8 says, the reason there is so much hate in this world is because people have not yet encountered the Father’s love. It might be that someone is a Christian and still living a life filled with hate because they aren’t truly walking intimately with him.
If you want to follow this verse and be filled up with the Father’s love you will need to fill yourself up through fellowship, worship and the Word of God. What are you doing to refuel yourself with more of him? Are your actions and words displaying the love of the Father? Are you allowing his love to pour out of you onto others? Spend time reflecting on 1 John 4:7-8 and make a choice today to seek his love.
