1 John 5:14-15 Ask Anything #206

1 John 5:14-15 was a verse that I memorized 10+ years ago and have had to remind myself of often. It says this, This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

It’s hard to put into words how much I love this verse. I love that it starts out with the confidence that we get to approach the throne with. Prayer always starts out with you asking, right? But are you asking God with confidence? God is a sweet and gentle Father who wants you to approach him with full confidence that he will answer what it is that you are asking him.

And what about the subject of what you are asking him. Is it according to his will? If you aren’t sure what God’s Will is you can read this post. What God has promised you is this; you can have the confidence that when you ask according to God’s will that he hears you and that you will have what you have asked of him. Do you realize the importance of knowing what God’s Word says now? If not, this verse should emphasize it.

This verse should change the way you pray. It should change everything for you. Ask yourself these questions. Are you approaching prayer with confidence? Are you talking to God about anything and everything? Are you praying his will?

Your most powerful prayers are prayers that are birthed out of what God has already said. God takes delight when you pray what he has already promised. Start approaching him with confidence as you pray his will and expect that you pray will be done!
