06 Nov 1 Peter 5:6 In Due Time #203
Pride. It’s something that is never fun to talk about. I addressed it a month ago when I shared 1 Peter 5:5 which says, “In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” You can click here to read my thoughts on verse 5, but today, I want to share 1 Peter 5:6, which says this, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
In Due Time. You know this verse hits home for me, right? Let’s be real, I like the “in due time” part of this verse much more than the “humble yourself” part. Either way, the good news is that God is always wanting to promote and upgrade you. He always has something more for you, but just like any good Father, there is an appointed time with the upgrade he has. He wants to lift you up and he will do just that, in his perfect timing.
But what happens before he lifts you up? He is waiting for you to submit yourself and your plans to him. He wants you to come to him, surrender your life to him and then humble yourself before him. God can’t upgrade you and bless you how he wants to when you are full of pride and trying to make your plans play out. But he can come in and help when you submit yourself to him.
Notice how this verse uses the word, “therefore.” I did some more research as I knew it would be important and sure enough another phrase for the word is “this is how the dots connect.” Meaning, God can lift you up in due time but to connect the dots and make that happen you first need to humble yourself. Meaning if you humble yourself then he can lift you up.
Are you willing to submit to him? Are you willing to clothe yourself in humility? Humbly obey him and he will lift you up in due time!
