25 Jan Breaking and Making Agreements

Do you realize the spiritual war that you are in? If you don’t, I hope by the time you finish this post you are more aware of the spiritual battle that is going on around you as well as the power of breaking and making agreements.

Without even realizing it, you have made thousands of agreements throughout your lifetime. Those agreements could have been either with God or with Satan. Can you imagine shaking hands with Satan or signing an agreement with him? Sounds horrific, right? But, it’s what most Christians have done in many realms of their life. Ephesians 4:27 says “Do not give the devil a foothold.” Do NOT give the devil a foothold. That means the only one who can give him a foothold, is you! The only access the devil has in your life is the access you give him. I actually talked about opening doors here and I encourage you to read it for a more detailed explanation.

How is an agreement made? Well often times it’s made with your words. Your words are like fire and they have the power to either cause destruction and negatively impact many generations below you or they have the power to bless and create life. The minute you speak death over your life, health, body, finances, relationships, or whatever it is that you are talking about, you are making an agreement with the demonic realm. So the minute you say something like, “I will always be fearful” guess what? You just made an agreement with the enemy. Why? Because you spoke death over yourself. God’s Word speaks to this exact topic. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Let me remind you, fear is not a feeling, it is a spirit! It’s a spirit straight from hell. You don’t have to live another day in fear, because fear is not from the Lord. But when you make an agreement with fear it sure is going to be hard for you to find peace because you invited the demonic realm into your life and Satan has now taken over.

While we are on the topic of words, my encouragement to you in regards to the words you speak? Remove words like “never” and “always” from your vocabulary because every time you use one of those words in a negative context you are making agreements with the enemy. For example, “I will never feel better.” Have you ever said that? It’s a lie and when you say it you make an agreement with the enemy. What about “I will always have health problems.” Guess what? You just made an agreement with the enemy and invited him in! Don’t be surprised if you always have health problems.

You can not only make agreements with your words, but your actions and thoughts too. Sin is a perfect example of opening a door to the enemy. There is no more direct way to invite the enemy into your life as it is with sin. And your thoughts? They are the same way. When you think or believe a lie, you empower the liar. John 8:44 says, “He is a master of deception and the father of lies!” Satan’s goal is to get you to partner up with him. It can be something minor or major, but regardless of what it is, you need to be aware of the agreements you are making.

Some people won’t like this, but I want to share the following as it’s a perfect example for the point I am trying to make. I believe there is a reason the miscarriage rate is so high within the infertility community. I believe once someone goes through infertility they are much more in tune to every single thing that can go wrong. Right? They hear horror stories. They experience trauma. They know, much more than the average woman who gets pregnant immediately after trying, the amount of things that go wrong not only leading up to getting pregnant, but when pregnancy itself happens. After they retain all this information, they spend months, if not years, partnering with fear and speaking death and before they know it they find out they themselves are having a miscarriage shortly after finding out they are pregnant. That sounds so harsh. It’s not meant to be, but the reason I am so passionate about this topic is because of what I have seen and heard in the infertility community. It’s fear. It’s death. It’s negativity. Now is a good time to also point out that not all illnesses are physical. Often times they are spiritual and for some women, the reason they are having miscarriage isn’t because their body isn’t working properly, it’s actually because of the agreements they have made with the enemy.

What have you been speaking? What have you been thinking about? What agreements have you made? Are they agreements made with the Word of God? Are they agreements with his promises in your life? Are they agreements of life? Or are they the exact opposite and have you instead been making agreements with death? It’s time to break agreements with the enemy and make agreements with the truth of God’s Word.

Below is a very generic prayer, but I invite you to pray it with me. As the Holy Spirit reveals every area of your life that you have made agreements with the demonic realm, I encourage you to pray specifically over each and every area. For example, if you have made an agreement with sickness, rebuke it, cast it out, break it off and then use God’s Word to find specific verses on the opposite: health and healing. Start declaring those over your life.

Father God, I come to you humbled and thankful that your arms are wide open, ready to love me and hug me. I ask you to reveal to me every agreement that I have made with the enemy through my own sin, my words, my actions and my thoughts. I close every door I have opened to the demonic realm and break any oppression that is over my life. I refuse to live my life for the enemy anymore and I partner myself up with you, ready to make agreements with you and your Word. Amen.
