Christ is Born Luke 2:10-11 #167
Can you believe Christmas is THIS week? Every year it sneaks up on me and this year is no different. I love reflecting on the story of the birth of Jesus during this time of the year, since that’s what Christmas is all about.
Luke 2:10-11 says, “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people: Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord.’ “
At this point in the scripture, Jesus was already born in a manger. However, this is the part where God sends an angel to announce the birth. The angel had good news to share. But not just any news; news that would bring great joy and hope.
This Sunday we celebrate the greatest event in history. Our Messiah has been born. We have a Messiah that is so much more than what anyone expected him to be. The Jews waited for someone to deliver them, while others waited for someone to heal them. But, Jesus came as fully man and fully God to accomplish more than anyone could have wanted. He paid the price for all of our sin and opened the door for us to live in the complete freedom and peace of a restored relationship with God. With his birth comes a new hope that lasts forever.
In the busyness of traveling, buying presents, running errands, working, cooking, etc remember that this week we celebrate the best day in all of history; the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
