Colossians 3:2 – Things Above #134
I am sharing a verse that I mentioned last week in my Unashamed post. Speaking of that post, I went to a conference this past weekend and Christine Caine spoke about her recent book Unashamed and another speaker also talked about shame. Clearly the Lord is trying to bring healing and freedom to the area of shame as it’s no accident the timing of so many sharing on the same topic. I had no idea that Christine Caine just released her book, but now it’s at the top of my list to read.
Now onto today’s verse. Colossians 3:2 is short and sweet and says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” So between the 1st and 2nd verse you are instructed to set your hearts and minds on things above. Have you ever prayed the Lord’s prayer before? “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” If you have said this before, you are asking God’s kingdom on earth to be as it is in heaven. You should desire the same thing for your heart and mind too.
Your mind and heart should always be fixed on the truth of heaven, which is also God’s Word. There is so much spiritual warfare going on around you. Not only that, but clearly the things of this world are filled with a lot of turmoil and chaos. It doesn’t help to focus on the news or the craziness of everything going on around you right? When you do make worldly things your focus, you probably notice you deal with a lot more fear and anxiety which is why it’s important to re-focus your attention to heaven.
The things of heaven are pure and right and they are filled with peace and joy. Don’t you want those things for your mind and heart? If you are seeking the things of this world more than things of God, repent and ask Holy Spirit to help you focus on His truth. Continue to check your heart and mind and make sure you pursue the mind of Christ in every area of your life.

Posted at 10:32h, 16 MaySometimes this is so hard isn’t it. For me (especially with playing a wedding) I get so caught up in my day to day life and goals for the future that I sometimes forget the bigger picture! Sometimes I forget that the wedding really isn’t important, it’s the marriage that is important. It’s Josh and I living out Christ in our marriage! This can be said about anything. Maybe your job is awful, you hate it, you want to quit. BUT God has you there for a reason. Sometimes it’s not about the “job” but about the people there. Are you using your job as a platform to share Christ? This is sometime we SO easily forget! Loved this reminder!

Posted at 17:09h, 16 MayI appreciate Christine’s books – and I, too, am excited to read her new book. I think we would live in an entirely different world if we felt the freedom to share our hearts in transparent and vulnerable ways. Let’s start a revolution of being unashamed!

Posted at 20:44h, 16 MayThis verse and Proverbs 4:25-27 are my verses for this year. Today alone God has reminded me of Colossians 3:2 I’ve gotten off track but my prayer for direction led me to read this as a reminder. Thank you

Posted at 07:42h, 17 MayI had never implied this verse to the concept of shame before. But it clearly applies. If we are focused on the things of the Lord, we will have no time to feel ashamed.

Posted at 11:59h, 17 MayIt’s so easy to get caught up in fashion, “things,” and right now politics — all things that aren’t wrong but become so when we have our minds set upon them. I like to read a praise verse each morning and it seems to give me something to ponder on throughout the day.

Posted at 22:57h, 19 MayYes. Let me tell you — right now we are being bludgeoned with earthly needs. Satan is mocking us, but we have our sight set on Christ and we are free. It is when we allow Satana’s distractions that we waiver. It is NOT easy, but oh how Jesus provides.
