Don’t Just Survive. Choose to Thrive.

When you reflect on your life, would you say that you are thriving through it or are you really just trying to survive? Whether you are in a trial or not, do you make an effort to find joy in every day?

I get it. Life is hard. It’s so easy to become bitter and grumble through your current situation. Maybe you hate your job. Maybe your marriage is on the rocks. Maybe you don’t know how you are going to pay your rent. Or maybe it’s that you recently lost someone you love. No matter what you are going through, God didn’t create you to “just barely make it”. He didn’t create you to spend time “wishing away your days”. He doesn’t desire for you to always hope for the “next greatest thing”.

God desires for you to THRIVE. He wants you to live an abundant life. He has a specific purpose for each and every day you face and He has created you to live your life to the fullest. He encourages you to thrive through every day and yes, that includes thriving even when you are in the middle of a difficult trial.

Stop settling for less than what the Lord has already paid for. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, you get to live in complete victory. There are two people who will prevent a bountiful life from manifesting and that is the enemy and yourself. Make a decision today to thrive through the abundant life God has set out before you.

”I have come that they might have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

A wonderful reminder that I believe we each have to revisit from time to time.

Great reminder. I also think it’s important though to really feel the hard times though, sometimes down to your soul, to engrave what it feels like to be at a low so we can truly appreciate the high. Sometimes when we are barely making it, that’s when we decide that something has to change, not only to thrive, but to strive for more. I believe that sometimes God just wants us to get out of the rut we are in and we have to do that on our own. We have to work for it. We can’t just sit back and “thrive” in our current situation but we have to want more for ourselves and strive to change it.

I totally agree. It is important to see these things in context. It is only in hindsight that we realise that there is a more powerful force at work. No matter how badly we felt in a particular crisis we survived it. How? Because God was right with us. Yes we need the downs as well as the ups. How else can we compare them. It is also good practice to thank him for his presence in moments of despair. In the craziness of the moment we pray. We may not remember praying but we did.

Personally I count my blessings everyday. I thank him for each day and my loving husband, my family and my friends. I thank him even when I cannot sleep, I thank him for the skills I have and the ones I have acquired over the years. It is unwise to take him for granted. Because without him I would not survived.

Thank you for this reminder and this post. Keep up the amazing work. May God bless you your family in abundance.

To be honest, I do feel like I’m just surviving right now. I like my job but having been feeling bitter and jealous about not being able to Just stay at home with my baby. Thanks for this reminder. I needed it! God is good and has me in this place for a reason.

You bring up a such a great point. There are days where I know I am just surviving and trying to get through the day/week/month. But, then after these low days I do appreciate the days where I am thriving much more. xo

I know so many people who go through their lives just surviving. That’s not how I want to live at all. We all should Thrive!

I need this type of motivation today. I have to remember to stop trying to do everything on my own and ask for help when I need it.

I really loved reading your break down of thriving – as some others have commented – I am not really a fan of the “Thrive” all the time mentality. There are times in life when surviving is really all we can do, as long as we do not let go of the Hope that has been give to us in the Blood of our Savior.

Then again, if we are just going through the motions during a time of life when we should be joyful, then maybe we need to push past just surviving in order to thrive.

Oh I so needed to read this today! We were hit with a financial burden yesterday and I will admit I let it steal my joy and cause me a ton of stress, so much so that my stomach was in knots most of the night. Thank you so much for sharing these timely words!

It is amazing to me what the enemy will do take our focus off God and to make us believe we can only survive NOT thrive. I think a big part is identifying the enemy and seeing it for what it is. It is so easy to focus on what we don’t have versus what we do have with God. If we have the power of the Holy Spirit living in us..is that just surviving or is that THRIVING? We can’t trust our emotions they will fail us every time Do you realize from the time we are born the Dr. or nurse gives us a score on how well we will thrive. From the time we are born the enemy is already plotting against us….there are days which are very difficult, hard, lonely stressful, painful, but I would rather THRIVE than just survive….God has used very difficult things in my life to teach me I’m not a survivor I’m a Thrivivor!!!!! ( Yes, I made up this word) Thanks for speaking God’s truth!

It is truly a sad sight to see how many believers are satisfied with mediocrity. I’m guilty as well and forgetting what God has for me! This saying is one that I’ve used for a while and certainly appreciate the reminder!

What a wonderful post, thank you for sharing this Caroline. There is a quote I love from one of the authorities of my church, “God didn’t design us to be sad. He created us to have joy!” I wholly believe this. We have such a caring, loving Heavenly Father, why would he want us to have or be or do any less than our best? Real, lasting happiness doesn’t come from things of the world, and it’s up to us to choose to be happy.

I really like this thought! It’s so true, sometimes we just get in a rut, but it’s great to remember that our Savior died for us and that he knows exactly what we are going through. It’s great to know we have Him to turn to!

LOVE THIS! I was at a pretty tough spot a few years ago but had to look in the mirror and say I have complete control over all of this and recommitted myself to my Lord and my Life.

    Today I couldnt be happier!
