01 May Filled to Overflowing
There was once a time when I was miserable in our fertility journey. I was trying to control the outcome. I was doing whatever I could to make a baby happen. I was desperate. I was bitter and jealous. I didn’t have hope or joy.
The main reason I was so miserable? I hadn’t surrendered our story over to God. Instead of focusing on Him, all I cared about was a baby.
Thankfully in August 2013, after hitting rock-bottom, I had a turning point. Everything changed the moment I chose to put my hope and trust in God. Instead of walking in bitterness, unbelief, fear and doubt, my cup was filled to overflowing.
In preparation of launching A Cup Full of Hope Podcast I have been meditating on Romans 15:13, which is the main verse for our podcast. It says, “Now may God, the inspiration and fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope!”
I can relate so much to this verse and I speak for both Jessica, my co-host, and I when I say, this is the core of who we are. Our cups are filled to overflowing. It’s certainly not because life is smooth-sailing. It’s definitely not because we have received everything we have asked for or desired. But it’s because just as this verse says, we have put our trust in him.
I think it can be so easy to love verses like Romans 15:13, but overlook the key conditional causes such as “trust in him.” A few weeks ago I shared on the topic of reaping the promises in scripture. If you want to reap the harvest, which in this verse is joy and peace, then you have to plant the seeds, which is putting your trust in God. You reap what you sow and if you don’t sow trust, then you won’t reap the benefits of Romans 15:13.
Our hope for the podcast is that you too would understand you can be filled to overflowing, even in the middle of the worst situations or circumstances. In fact, the God of hope wants to fill you with joy and peace today but in order to receive the promise you are going to have to put your trust in him.
So, do you trust God? Do you actually trust Him with your whole heart and mind? It is time to surrender! It is time to put your trust in Him! And when you do? You will experience uncontainable joy, perfect peace and you too will radiate with hope!
