15 Jul Galatians 5:9 Lies Permeate Beliefs #280
Last week I shared from Galatians 5 and today I am going to continue with Galatians 5:9. To give some context, Paul points out in Galatians 5:7 that the church has been following false teaching. He says, “you were doing so well! Who made you stop obeying the truth? How did he persuade you?”
The Galatians were turning from Jesus and turning towards false teaching. They were on the right path, until they followed a deceived message.
Galatians 5:9 goes on to say, “This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough!” The passion translation of this verse says, “Don’t you know that when you allow even a little lie into your heart, it can permeate your entire belief system?”
What Paul is saying in Galatians 5:9 is just a little bit of false or bad teaching corrupts a good message. In addition, turning to legalism will corrupt the true Gospel.
I think this verse goes way beyond just false teaching or legalism, it holds true for any lie, right? Do you realize compromising God’s truth, even if it’s a little lie, will permeate your entire belief system? This is why we must know the truth because if we don’t know what is true how will we know what is a lie?
Paul goes on to say in Galatians 5:10, “Deep in my heart I have faith that the Lord Jesus the Anointed One, who lives in you, will bring you back around to the truth.”
What lie are you believing? In what ways have you allowed false teaching, the voices of the world and the many lies satan whispers to you take root in your heart? Today, God wants to bring you back around to the truth! Don’t go another day with a compromised belief system. Instead, seek to renew your mind with the truth of God’s Word!
