God’s Word

Psalm 37:4 – Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I realized a new meaning of this verse today. As I sat here and wondered why this was happening along with focusing on the two desires I have always had: being a wife and having a lot of kids, this verse came to mind. However, after studying the scripture I was excited to learn more about it and it now has a whole new meaning. Instead of focusing on me and my desires – the beginning of the verse changes that all. “Take delight in the Lord” – This isn’t a promise that God will give us whatever we want, but that when we are living according to God’s will and are obedient to His word we discover that His love and desire will become our own heart’s desire. I love that!! Not sure what took me so long to make the realization, but what could be any better than seeking Him first as he changes our hearts. God’s desires and will for us is so much better than our own. He’s proved that to me over and over. And as much as we want a baby right now, I know He has better plans. Praise Him!!!

James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

I remember reading this verse over and over and over when I first got diagnosed with MDDS. I was 21 and it was the hardest thing I had ever gone through. I would lay in bed at night and cry out to God and journal and meditate on this verse. At the time, it made me thankful for what I was going through and I can honestly say the same thing being only 1 week into this trial. God will do so much through us during this hard time. We will grow and mature in our relationship with him and each other. I love how this verse says “whenever” and not “if”. It’s inevitable that throughout life we will face trials. It’s amazing how much a trial or rough point in your life will change your mindset and priorities. Again, praise Him for bringing us through this trial so we can grow closer to Him and to each other.
