Hebrews 11:8 – Step of Faith #136

Hebrews 11:8 in the Passion Translation says, “Faith motivated Abraham to obey God’s call and leave the familiar to discover the territory he was destined to inherit from God. So he left with only a promise and without even knowing ahead of time where he was going, Abraham stepped out in faith.”

Abraham was motivated by his faith. He had to leave what was comfortable to him to follow the call the Lord had placed on his life. His story reminds me that faith isn’t easy and it doesn’t always make sense. It takes courage. Like me, you might receive a lot of push back and you might not have seen any results yet. But when there is an inheritance that God has destined for you, then your faith should motivate you, even if it means foregoing a familiar and easy path.

All Abraham had was a promise. He had a Word from God. He didn’t have anything tangible or anything he could see, but he relied on God’s word. He didn’t know where he was going, but he stepped out trusting that the Lord would follow through with his Word. If you are obeying the Lord, but haven’t seen anything change in your circumstances or you have nothing tangible to show for your faith, let me assure you that you are on the correct path.

Abraham set an amazing example of what it looks like to have faith. His faith was much more than declaring that he believed in God. Yes, of course that is important. But just as Abraham did, it’s also important to put your faith in who God is and what he says he will do. Whether you are believing for a baby, like me, or something completely different do you have faith like Abraham? Remember that preparing yourself for the fulfillment of God’s promises, however unlikely they may seem, demonstrates your faith.

OH, dear friend! You will never know how much I needed and appreciate your words today! I was thinking how Abraham didn’t have a precedent to look back to, like we do. We look back upon HIS faith in God, and but he didn’t have anything to refer back to or observe how God had helped someone before him. As you know, I LOVE when you talk about Abraham and this subject…it so applies to your situation and to ours, and it never ceases to amaze and inspire me. So thankful for you and your obedience to write what God places upon your heart. Sending much love your way and praying for you!

Yes, we walk by faith and not by sight but on what God’s Word has said. Thanks for the encouragement today! :-*

This is a GREAT post. Love the part on, “Faith isn’t always easy, and doesn’t always make sense.” I’ve had so many times when God has clearly called me to do something, talk to someone, go somewhere, and I’ve questioned Him because it either makes no sense to me, or seems too difficult. But we have to take that step of faith sometimes so we see how right He is.

I’m editing a quarter of AS curriculum that’s on Abraham. I`m enjoying it. His faith astounds me. Challenges me to exercise my faith.

We have a whole book of examples! You would think it would be easier for us to take that small step of faith. Thankful for those that came before us in the faith!

Ugh…I needed this today. Struggling with some things and honestly, I was losing patience. My faith was wavering. This reminder is something I needed at this very moment. So blessed to read your words, they’re always so full of faith and encouragement.
