How to Increase Your Faith

I don’t know about you, but I always want to go deeper in my faith life. I want to believe for the impossible. I want the kind of faith that makes people uncomfortable. I want the kind of faith that doesn’t make sense, which by the way, isn’t that just what faith is? “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see?” Hebrews 11:1 But how do you get there? How do you increase your faith?

I first want to point out that Jesus only asks for mustard seed faith. He doesn’t need faith the size of the ocean or the sky. Even if there is a mountain in front of you, all Jesus is asking for you to have is faith the size of a mustard seed and if you do? Nothing will be impossible for you.

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

Well you might, like me, want more than the mustard seed. I want faith the size of the ocean or sky. Is it necessary, no! But it’s what I want. Or maybe as you read this you are thinking to yourself that if you were to admit it, you probably have no faith at all. How does one “get” more faith? Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

It’s really that simple. You want more faith? Spend time in the Word of God. If you were to ask most people who lacked faith, who were hurting or who were feeling distant from God, how much time they spent in the Word, I’m sure their answer would be little to none. But what happens when you spend time in God’s Word? Faith is birthed. It becomes stronger and it increases.

If you want to increase your faith, don’t just read any part of scripture, read the testimonies. Read Hebrews 11, the Hall of Faith, or read the Gospels where there is story after story of Jesus healing and restoring and redeeming. When you do? It’s guaranteed that you will have more faith! It will most definitely encourage your heart. The reason I have shared testimonies here is because I know it increases my faith and I hope it will help increase yours too. Well reading the Word is the same way. The more you understand God’s character, the more reason you will realize you have every reason to believe for the impossible.
