My Identity in Christ

I have had this post in my draft folder for months. This conversation has come up twice this week, so I figured it’s time to share….

What would you tell someone if they asked you what your identity was? Would it be the title at your job? Your status based on how much money you have? Maybe how many friends you have or your most recent accomplishments? What about how many kids you do or don’t have? Forget all that!

As believers, this is your identity in Christ…

  • You are created in his image (Genesis 1:27)
  • You are delighted in Christ (Zephaniah 3:17)
  • You are washed clean (Isaiah 1:18)
  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
  • You have guaranteed victory (Psalm 18:35)
  • You are Jesus’ friend (John 15:15)
  • You are the branch of the true vine (John 15:1-5)
  • You are chosen and appointed by Christ to bear His fruit (John 15:16)
  • You are justified (Romans 5:1)
  • There is no condemnation for you (Romans 8:1)

  • You are adopted (Romans 8:15)
  • You are co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17)
  • You can never be separated from God’s love (Romans 8:39)
  • You are part of one body (Romans 12:5)
  • You are sanctified and made acceptable in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:2)
  • You are made righteous and holy in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30)
  • You have been bought with a price and belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:19,20)
  • Your labor is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58)
  • You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • You receive God’s righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21)
  • You are God’s children (Galatians 3:26)
  • You are one in Christ with all other believers (Galatians 3:28)
  • You are blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)
  • You are holy and blameless (Ephesians 1:4)
  • You are chosen before the creation of the world (Ephesians 1:4,11)
  • You are adopted as God’s children (Ephesians 1:5,6)
  • You are given glorious grace, lavishly without restriction (Ephesians 1:5,8)
  • You have the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7)
  • You are chosen and brought under Christ’s authority (Ephesians 1:11)
  • You are the praise of his glory (Ephesians 1:12)
  • You are identified as belonging to God by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13)
  • You have been seated in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6)
  • You have been given the incomparable riches of God’s grace (Ephesians 2:7)

  • You may approach God with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12)
  • You are light in the Lord (Ephesians 5:8)
  • You are members of Christ’s body, the church (Ephesians 5:29,30)
  • Your joy overflows on account of him (Philippians 1:26)
  • All your needs are met according to his glorious riches (Philippians 4:19)

  • You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

Whenever the enemy is feeding you lies to make you feel or think you are anything other than what the word of God says, I encourage you to print this out (My Identity in Christ) and repeat these verses. Speak God’s truth! These just skim the surface of who you are in Christ!

Before I even got to the bottom of this I scrolled back up and pressed print! Thank you Caroline for the reminder of who holds our identity! All to often we let the world tells us who we are. It’s time that we tell the world who we are….children of the King!

As soon as I read this post my first thought went to the song we sing at my church. It’s beautiful and everyone must listen to it and memorize the words 🙂

It is called “All He says I am” by Cody Carnes and Kari Jobe

This is beautiful and powerful and I LOVE IT! Oh, and I love that you included stuff from John 15….totally obsessed with that part of the Bible right now. I have my Bible lying open to John 15, and I swear I could read it out loud every single day and not get tired of it. Just such a beautiful set of verses.
