Isaiah 9:6 – Child is Born #117

We are just a few days away from Christmas and I know I say this every year, but I truly can’t believe how quickly it has come. I feel like Isaiah 9:6 is a great verse to share this week. This verse is the prophetic word given by Isaiah, which is later fulfilled in the New Testament when Jesus is born. It’s packed full of content, so to make it easier to share, I have broken it down!

For to us a child is born – Isaiah emphasizes the point that not only would the awaited Messiah be a child, but a Son too. This verse shows us that the Messiah would be a man, but come into this world as a baby. If we think of the most helpless and weak person it’s a very small baby. Babies are 100% dependent on their caretaker. I love that Jesus was born as a baby, so that He could fully identify with man.

To us a Son is given – Jesus was given as a free gift to us. There are no works involved with knowing Jesus. He is a gift to us and there is nothing we have to do to earn Him. The only thing we are responsible for is accepting Him.

The government will be on his shoulders – Jesus is born to the royal priesthood, the strongest dominion of all! He still reigns and has ALL authority today.

Wonderful Counselor – Jesus is full of wonder. Wonder defined in the dictionary says, ‘a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.’ Isn’t that so true about Jesus? You can’t ever get bored with Him. When you realize how wonderful He is then you are just left in true awe and amazement. There is no better counselor then Him. Often times we are so quick to run to our spouse or a friend, when the most wonderful counselor of all is waiting to listen and advise us!

Mighty God – Mighty is defined as ‘possessing great and impressive power or strength’. This is such a straightforward description of God. He is the God of all creation and glory and the Lord who reigns over all.

Everlasting Father – He is the source of all creation and the father who reigns over it all. His reign is never-ending, timeless, boundless and infinite.

Prince of Peace – He is the only one who can bring peace. He is the ultimate peace giver.

This week take the time to reflect on our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Beautiful. I think we often forget the extraordinary prophesies that were fulfilled with one man. The miracle if God becoming a baby and growing into a man.
