“Don’t worry or surrender to your fear.[a] For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.

John 14:1 Don’t Worry #228

Have you ever surrendered to fear? My guess is at some point, every single person has. We live in a society where the majority of people operate from a Spirit of fear rather than a Spirit of victory. But do you know what scripture tells you about fear? John 14:1 says, “Don’t worry or surrender to your fear. For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.”

Before I share about this verse specifically, I need to provide some context. John 14:1 comes directly after John 13 where Jesus shared that several things would happen: one of his disciples would betray him, Jesus would be leaving them and that Peter would deny him 3 times. That’s a lot of heavy stuff right? And despite that Jesus still told his disciples “don’t worry or surrender to your fear.” Some translations of this verse also say “Do not let your hearts be troubled.”

Based on their circumstances, the disciples had every reason to feel troubled. And yet, Jesus still gave them the command not to worry or surrender to fear. And then Jesus goes on to say, “For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.” Jesus in this moment asked the disciples to trust him, just as they trusted his Father, God. It’s the same thing he’s asking you to do today. Some believers choose to separate the trinity and just believe one aspect, but don’t miss out on the access you have with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Do you believe in all three? Trust in Jesus, just as you trust in your Father.

I encourage you to continue reading in John 14 as Jesus spoke with complete confidence about heaven, which should have given the disciples even more reason to understand that they had no need to worry or fear. You should have that same expectation and confidence today too! It’s time to stop operating from a spirit of fear and start operating from a spirit of power, love and a sound mind.

“Don’t worry or surrender to your fear.[a] For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.
