Luke 8:10 Teachable Heart #231
Last week I shared about the hardness of heart and I can’t stop thinking about what scripture says regarding the topic. Today, I wanted to focus on a verse I had mentioned in last week’s post but I want to dive in a little deeper. Luke 8:10 says, “You have been given a teachable heart to perceive the secret, hidden mysteries of God’s kingdom realm. But to those who don’t have a listening heart, my words are merely stories. Even though they have eyes, they are blind to the true meaning of what I say, and even though they listen, they won’t receive full revelation.”
To give you some context, this verse takes place right after the parable of the soils, which I highly recommend reading because it’s so powerful! Immediately after sharing the parable of the soil, the disciples asked for clarity as they didn’t understand what it was that Jesus was referring to in that parable. And how does he answer the disciples? He answers with verse 10.
What Jesus says in verse 10 is that he has given you, his son or daughter, a “teachable heart” or as some translations say, “the knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of God.” Which means that your teachable heart is your inheritance; it is his gift and his promise to you! But what is this mystery that the verse refers to? The mysteries aren’t for you to never understand; instead the mysteries will come through understanding as God reveals them to you through his presence.
The remaining part of the passage is quoted from Isaiah 6:9 and what needs to be understood from this verse is that the parables shared were meant to be revealed to those who had eyes to see and ears to listen. But to those with a hard heart? They were merely just stories. I don’t know about you, but I want to make sure that every area of my heart is softened so that I can receive full revelation from my Heavenly Father. I want to have eyes to see and ears to hear, but that all starts in my heart and so in order to do so, I have to make sure my heart is healthy.
Don’t let your hardened heart keep you from encountering the Father, as well as hearing, seeing and receiving full revelation. It’s time to find healing and freedom so that you can walk in true life-union and intimacy with the very one who created you!
