Matthew 6:8 God Knows #194
Last week, I shared a post on the topic of prayer and today I’m talking about it again. I think as Christians we complicate how prayer should be. I’ve heard so many say they don’t pray because they don’t know how or they don’t know what to say. I think it’s important to recognize that the purpose of prayer is to connect with God.
Matthew 6:8 says, “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches about prayer. The verses before and after verse 8 are super important, but for purposes of today’s post, I’m just sharing verse 8. And just as this verse says, God knows what you need before we ask him.
You might be wondering why one would pray when God knows already what you are going to pray? Because just as an earthly father would desire, God wants you to bring every thought, every desire, every need, every fear and every question to him. Does he already know it all? Of course. But the way you can grow closer to God and understand his heart, his mind and his plans for your life is by talking to him. He wants to talk to you about the things that are important to you.
Just as I shared last week, on the days you don’t know what to pray, pray God’s Word. And the days you have very little words to say, just call on his name and say Jesus. But on the other days? Talk to him! It doesn’t have to be fancy or long. He already knows your heart and your mind, but because he’s such a good and loving Father, he wants you to talk to him about it all.
If you have never prayed, today is a good day to start. If you are tired of praying, don’t stop. Stay persistent in your prayers and stay in constant connection with God. And remember, your heart behind your prayers is way more important than how long your prayers are or the words you say. After all, your heart is exactly what he is after.
