Memory Monday – Week 51
Hope is the strong and confident expectation of something desired. I have shared a lot over the years about hope, but what happens when what you hope for is not obtained at the time you desired? The answer will depend on the significance and importance of what you are waiting for and the length of your wait. The longer you wait the more your heart and mind can grow weary. You might feel that you have wasted time hoping for something and the hope you once had might soon turn into hopelessness.
Hopelessness isn’t the only option while waiting. Proverbs 13:12 says, ‘‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” When we are steadfast with our hope and we receive what we have hoped for, it is like a tree of life. How sweet is it when something prayed for, waited for, hoped for, and believed for breaks through and you receive what you have longed for? Don’t stop hoping for what you are desiring – whether it’s in the natural or the spiritual. A new job, breakthrough in health or finances, a marriage, a baby, etc. A tree of life will rise up in the perfect time – it will not be delayed.
You better believe I have replayed the scenario 100 different times of us finding out we are pregnant – the joy, the celebration, and the sweetness that will happen on that day. Even better, 9 months after that when we are holding our babies – what a sweet gift of life we will receive. In reality, I have no idea what that day will look like. I don’t know if it will be tomorrow or it will be 10 more years. But, what I do know, is that hopelessness is not an option. We will keep on believing, keep on hoping, and keep on having faith that He who promised is faithful. Our tree of life is coming and if you keep on pressing into Jesus and hoping for what you’re waiting for – your tree will also come.
