Memory Monday – Week 53
I can’t believe it’s been a year since I have started sharing weekly verses. As the year mark was approaching I was debating back and forth whether to take a break or continue sharing, but I have chosen to continue. It’s been such a good time for me to be dig deeper into scriptures that I already know or have heard, but want to study more, as well as share the word with others.
So often it’s hard to understand what God is up to. We know He is doing something. We know He acts on the behalf of every one of our prayers, but sometimes it doesn’t make sense. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
There is no way for us to know what God is thinking. He doesn’t think like we do. His knowledge and His wisdom far surpass ours. It’s so easy for us to think that our ideas and plans are better than His. I remember asking Colby once, ”why can’t we just know when we will be pregnant” and he responded, ”because then we would be God”. Truth! If we knew the future and what is supposed to happen each day then we would be God! So, instead of us trying to make our own plan, we should desire for His plan to be our plan. The good news is that we are made in His image and the closer we grow to Him the more we become like Him and the more we become like Him the more we will understand His thoughts.
Verse 9 says that the difference between our thoughts and His thoughts is the difference between heaven and earth. There is no way to measure this, but it sure does sound enormous. When we spend time with Him this gap grows smaller and smaller. Even though it will never close completely the closer we are to Him the closer heaven becomes to us. Instead of being discouraged, let this verse encourage you – to draw closer to Him and grow to be more in His image.
