Memory Monday – Week 77

Isaiah writes prophetically to the Israelites in Isaiah 43:18-19, which says “But the Lord says, “Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already—you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.”

While it’s good to reflect on the faithfulness of God, this verse tells us it is bad to dwell on the struggles and defeat of our past. It seems so easy to get stuck in a rut or dwell on the past, but we are to look forward and press on. If we stay stuck in our ways, we might prevent something new from happening. Do not miss what God has for you because of your own neglect for what He wants to do in you.

Everyones past might look different so it doesn’t help to dwell on yours or compare yours to others. As 2015 approaches, I’m going to press forward with believing for new pregnancy and new birth. It won’t get me anywhere to dwell on the fact that it hasn’t happened yet, so I’m going to continue believing that God is going to bless us and make a way through the desert and through the streams, despite how hard or impossible it might seem.

What promises has God made to you? Instead of worrying about your past or the details of your future, press forward and believe the Lord will fulfill what He has spoken. It might not be how you wanted or expected, but He will make a way through the wilderness to create something new.

I need to remind myself of this everyday. I need to stay strong on look forward not backwards.

This is a great reminder! While I don’t really dwell on past bad choices I do dwell on things fertility related. It’s time to let that stuff go too 🙂

I love that the verse says, “It is happening already!” I think of the many times you have talked about what the Lord is ALREADY doing for us, the ways in which he is working toward our good, actively, aligning events and people and plans for us. It has been such a shift in my view of my struggles.

Believing big things for 2015, dear friend, and thankful to do so alongside such an incredible woman! Thanks for all you do to keep reminding so many of us, near and far, of our hope and our reality in Christ.

Thank you for sharing this. I think too often, we all dwell on the past and let it ruin the present and even the future.

A great reminder as we approach the new year! For my family, I’m once again praying for God’s direction in our lives. Last year we considered a move and instead were directed to another adoption. Maybe the move is this year? Maybe this will be another year of just “being” as a family? It’s hard to trust but I can’t wait to see what He has in store for us.

I’m in Isaiah right now and love the hope and promise in here. I always enjoy it. Very good advice, not just as we enter a new year, but always. Trust in God and continue moving forward.

I tend to get so, so, so stuck on stuff that’s happened in the past. Not big stuff, just little things I’ve done to embarrass myself or times I didn’t represent myself or my God very well. The other day, I sent emails to three people who I said or did hurtful things to like 6-15 years ago. It was freeing to be able to let that stuff go, but I also wish I could have done it just between me and God. I wish I could have trusted him to erase the yuck of my past like he promises to do. Anyways, thanks for this fabulous verse and the truth that you wrote here.
