Memory Monday – Week 80

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 contains Solomon’s observations on many different seasons of life. While I recommend reading it when you get a chance, today I’m just going to focus on the the first verse which says, “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1.

I love the definition of appointed: a time or place decided on beforehand. It’s prearranged. It’s a fixed time that is completely out of our control! I love this definition, because God is sovereign over all time. Just as Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary”. God is never early or late, He is always right on time and His timing has already been decided.

When we recognize and appreciate God’s timing we realize that no matter what we go through we can be in peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). It brings me so much to joy to know the Lord already knows the second our babies will enter this world. Why worry or grow impatient when it’s already been decided? His prearranged timing is always so much better than ours.

There is a time for everything, and a season for everything under heaven. Don’t get so caught up in looking for the next best thing, that you miss what the Lord is doing in the present. You are right where He wants you and whatever you are waiting for will happen at the appointed time.

Beautiful choice and a poignant reminder for the season my husband and I are in right now. We are living in the moments of “this will be over soon” and “once we get past __ date, things will settle down”. It’s hard to focus on the here and now, when that isn’t always where you want to be, but God makes each day beautiful and that should be our focus. Thank you for the reminder!

I love the word “appointed” too. It just seems so definite. Those plans are sealed. There’s a day and time… we just don’t know when.

    Thanks for sharing.
