10 Jun Philippians 4:8 Have Good Thoughts #275
A few weeks ago I shared a post called, “You are Under the Influence.” In this post I pointed out how every person is responsible for what they allow to influence them and what they allow to influence them eventually will lead them down the path of who they will become.
In that post I mentioned Philippians 4:8 which says, “So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind.”
This verse is very straight-forward on the type of thoughts we should have. And as I said in the influenced post, what goes into your mind, will come out of your mouth. So in order to think thoughts like Christ, then you have to put in your mind the things of Christ.
If we broke down this verse and looked at the definition of each word I think we would be quite surprised. For instance, are your thoughts pure? Meaning are they flawless, uncontaminated and genuine?
What about if we focused on the word, admirable? Are they respectful and honorable?
I encourage you to look up the definition of each word when you have time as I believe your eyes will truly be opened to what it is you should be meditating on. The truth is no one is going to have thoughts according to Philippians 4:8 without renewing their mind, rooting themselves in the Word and paying attention to how they spend their time.
So, do your thoughts line up with Philippians 4:8? If not, how are you spending your time? What are you reading and watching? Who are you hanging out with? Remember we are to meditate on what is authentic, real, honorable, admirable, beautiful, respectful, pure, holy, merciful and kind. And as Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks within himself, so is he.”
