rest unafraid - proverbs 1

Proverbs 1:33 Rest Unafraid #227

I am finally moving on from Proverbs 2 and I am backtracking to Proverbs 1:33 which says,But the one who always listens to me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace. Free from fear, confident and courageous, you will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life.

I feel like this verse can be a post in itself; there is not much more I need to say, but I will try to do this verse justice with very few words. The verses preceding, Proverbs 1:33, speaks of the person who turns away from God and as you can imagine, there is nothing good to be said about that person. But the one who always listens to God? He or she will “live undisturbed in a heavenly place.” Meaning, if you listen to God, you won’t just live undisturbed, but you will also experience peace from the heavenly realms.

What else will happen when you listen to God? You will be free from fear which will set you up to be able to live in confidence and courage. Not only will you live in confidence and courage, but you will be able to rest unafraid! Do you realize the connection that takes place between living a life of heavenly peace and being in true rest? True rest can’t happen in fear, but in peace? You will be able to rest unafraid knowing that you are “sheltered from the storms of life.”

Let me wrap up by again pointing out that this whole verse starts with “the one who always listens” to God. Living undisturbed, unafraid or being filled with confidence and courage can only happen when you follow him! rest unafraid - proverbs 1

In the Bible version I have (ESV) it reads “but whoever listens to Me [Wisdom] will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” You know, I had kinda ignored this verse because I thought it meant that I would be secure, have an easy life, without any disasters – and I just couldn’t accept that, as I know we live in a fallen world and Jesus has said we will have trouble in this world. But re-reading it now, I think I get it – it’s living “without dread” even if there is disaster, hey?? More so being at peace in Christ and having confidence in Him, than having an easy life, right? That’s kinda awesome. Don’t think I’ll skip over the verse anymore 😉
