Proverbs 4:20-22 Unwrap the Word #219

It’s no secret that most of us probably live very busy lives that are full of distractions coming from every direction. It can be in the form of our cell phone, tv magazines, media or other people. So when you look back at the course of last week, who or what would you say you focused your attention on?

Proverbs 4:23 is a verse many love and know, but today I am going to start a few verses prior to that in Proverbs 4:20-22 which says, Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you, and pay attention to all that I have to say. Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.”

Isn’t this such a powerful verse? This is a Word from the Lord. He wants us to pay attention to him and his Word because his Word brings life and health! It doesn’t say to pay attention to your cell phone or the latest episode of your favorite show. It doesn’t say to pay attention to the distractions of this world, but it says to “pay attention to all that I have to say.”

The verse goes on to say “fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit.” Do you take the time to fill your thoughts with God’s Word? Are you allowing his Word to penetrate your spirit? It’s important that as you read the Word you don’t just glance at it and forget, but you spend enough quality time in it that you understand it. And when you unwrap his words? “They will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.”

Take time to listen to what God is saying to you. Not just through his Word, but through his voice too. Continue to fix your thoughts and mind on the Lord. Keep his Word close to your heart always. When you do, this will set you up to guard your heart because out of it flows the wellspring of life. Remember to spend time meditating on God’s Word because it brings healing, radiant health, and life to the very core of your being.

Yes, it is so important to spend quality time with God. Here is another good verse! “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3
