Renewing Your Mind

be transformed by the rewnewing of your mind romans 12 in due time blog (1)

How do you stay full of hope after 7 years of waiting for a baby? How do you not crumble after receiving bad news from the doctor? How do you not lose joy after close family members pass away? The core of it really is about renewing your mind!.

These are questions I receive quite often and sure enough my answer, as always, goes back to the Word!

Romans 12:2 says, “Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.”

We as Christians need to understand the importance of renewing our minds. So many of us want transformation in our life, yet we aren’t willing to put in the work. Transformation comes by being in God’s Word. It really is that simple.

Romans 12:2 in another translation says, “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”

When we renew our mind, we change our thoughts and when we change our thoughts God can literally mold us into new people. That is because just as Proverbs 23:7 says, our thoughts determine who we are.

“For as he thinks within himself, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

Do you know what kind of thought life you should have?

Philippians 4:8 says, “So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.”

How would it be possible for you and I to focus on the truth in Philippians 4:8 unless we renew our mind with the God’s Word? Do you expect to think on what is honorable and pure by watching TV and internet videos all day? It just doesn’t work that way.

I truly believe a renewed mind is the key to living a life of victory and the only way to renew your mind is by spending time in the Word of God. It always goes back to knowing the Word doesn’t it?

How do you know if your mind is renewed? Well, if you have even the slightest feeling of defeat or doubt or your actions, words or thoughts don’t reflect Philippians 4:8 then it’s time to renew your mind.

If you aren’t sure where in the Word to start I encourage you to listen to Episode 9 from A Cup Full of Hope Podcast. I want to remind you that a renewed mind is not going to happen over night, but every time you open the Word of God, transformation is taking place.

The key to the life of joy and hope I am living, despite my circumstances, is because I have daily chosen to renew my mind with the truth from God’s Word. And you? You can do the same! Don’t go one more day copying the behaviors of this world. Instead let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think and renewing your mind. And then then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2).
