Romans 5:5 Hope Doesn’t Disappoint #265

I love Romans 5:3-4 but I really love Romans 5:5. In the Passion translation it says, “And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!” Several translations actually say, “And hope does not disappoint us.”

Hope does not disappoint! This verse might be confusing to you because you might be someone who is currently disappointed, but the hope this verse is referring to is much different than the hope this world talks about. The hope in Romans 5:5 is Biblical hope, which is when you put your hope in Jesus Christ. I think many Christians are walking around disappointed but that is because they have put their hope in other things and people and when those other things and people let them down guess what? They become disappointed. But when you put your hope in Christ? You won’t be disappointed.

I want to encourage you to go back and read Romans 5:3 and Romans 5:4 because the Biblical hope Romans 5:5 is referring to is built up in you when you keep your eyes on Christ as you persevere through trials. Again, many people when facing a difficult situation will turn to other things and other people, but what happens when you run your race well and keep your eyes on Christ, even in the middle of a hard season? Character will be built in you and you will have a hope that won’t disappoint you. Not only that, but you will encounter the endless love of the Father.

Who or what is in your hope in? Is it in Jesus Christ? If so, then he won’t let you down because he’s a good Father. But if it’s in other things or people you will be constantly be disappointed. In addition to reflecting on that question I encourage you to spend time in Romans 5:3-5 and ask yourself if the trials you are facing are building in you perseverance, character and hope. If not, how can you approach them from a Biblical standpoint instead of a worldly standpoint?romans 5:5 hope does not disappoint
