Romans 8:6 Mind of Christ #137

Romans is so good that it is hard to focus on just one chapter or verse. Romans 8 shares the importance of living by the power of the Holy Spirit. I love that the chapter starts off with stating that “the case is closed.” Don’t we always need to remember this? It is finished! Jesus paid for it all on the cross and accomplished what the law was unable to accomplish. Because of this He has enabled us to live by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:6 says, “For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace.”If you are motivated by the flesh, then you will only pursue selfish things, but when are motivated by the Spirit, you will pursue a kingdom like mentality.

If you continue reading you will learn that when a person is focused on the mind of this world, then it goes against God’s plan. Verse 8 goes on to say that “God finds no pleasure with those who are controlled by the flesh.” Um, ouch! Don’t you want God to find pleasure in you? He does so when you pursue a mind like His.

Remember, the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. His Spirit always brings forth life and peace. God is life-giving and when you walk in the spiritual realm, you will be fruitful in every area of your life.

Are you living in the Spirit or in the flesh? God wants you to live an abundant life and He doesn’t want you to settle for anything less. Remember, the case is closed. He has enabled you to live fully in His Spirit so don’t miss out on the peace and life that He has set before you.

There have been times in my life that I become careless and become focused on the world and what it “gives.” There’s never that deep peace and contentment during those times. Only when I refocus of the One who died for me do I reclaim it.

Yes! I find when my mind set is on me and fleshly instead of who Christ made my mind to focus on I worry more and become irritable. This is so important for both the trials and good circumstances in life. When we rely on the mind of Christ ( our new natures and new mindset) we live in abundance despite the lack that surrounds us. 🙂

Romans is my favorite book of the Bible with Hebrews a close second. I have gleaned so much from it time and time again.

Yes! Romans 8 is probably my favorite chapter… so much good stuff! I have learned that pursuing selfish things leads to disappointment – it’s like chasing your tail. The more you’re led by the flesh, the more you’re controlled by the flesh. You’re never satisfied. Christ in His wisdom gave us a release from this cycle by turning to a source that never runs dry. Praise Him!
