Stop Limiting God

Stop Limiting God

Stop Limiting God

Have you ever realized just how much you limit God? As I was in the kitchen the other morning, I heard Father say, “my people need to stop limiting me.”

um… hello!!! Can I get an amen?

My friend Jessica and I were in conversation the other week about something similar and she summed it up so well. She said most Christians put God in a box and give free rein to the enemy and instead it should be the exact opposite. The enemy should be in the box and God should have free rein.

It seems so obvious, yet why don’t more people live this way? Instead we limit God!

We limit God with our prayers. Do you realize what you pray reflects what you believe about God? Are you praying big, bold, mountain-moving prayers? If not, perhaps you are limiting God?

We limit God with our finances. I can’t tell you how many people over the months have told me they can’t go to the Moms in the Making conference due to finances. And finances haven’t been just an excuse for the conference, but people use finances as an excuse for anything and everything. If I were God, that might be one of my most frustrating pain-points with people. I mean he did create the whole world after all. Do you really think providing a few hundred dollars or even a few thousand dollars is that big of a deal for him? Perhaps instead of using finances as an excuse it’s time to steward well what he has given you and trust that he will provide abundantly. But, you are going to need to take him out of his box first, in order for the abundance and provision to flow throughout your life.

We limit God with our health. Are you someone who has been dealing with pain? Perhaps an autoimmune disorder? Nagging discomfort? I don’t know about you but I know that nothing is impossible with my God and I am not going to limit him to what the doctor has told me. Perhaps it’s time to take God out of his box and know that his heart for you is always to be well! He did not send his son to die on the cross for you to live in sickness, so stop limiting his healing, miraculous power. He is after all Jehovah-Rapha.

We limit God with our unbelief. Did you know the only time Jesus wasn’t able to perform miracles in the New testament is because of the unbelief of the people? Does this one resonate with you? Maybe it’s time to trust that God is who he says he is and he will do what he says he will do. It’s time to take a step forward in faith!

We limit God with our words. Proverbs 18:21 says, “the tongue has the power of life and death.” What have you been speaking? There are too many people who are speaking words of death, yet at the same time expecting to see life happen. This confuses me and I bet it confuses God too! I mean, how many times have you used the phrases, “it’s impossible” or “it will never happen” or “it can’t work.” Well then guess what? You have limited God! Stop limiting God with your words and start speaking words of life, decreeing and declaring what it is that you want to see.

We limit God with our actions. Helloooooo Old Testament. The complaining. The grumbling. The doubt. It even says in Psalm 78:41 that the children of Israel limited God. And Christians are still limiting him daily with the way they act.

We limit God by focusing on our past. Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” God wants to do a new thing in your life, but he can’t do something new if you are too focused on the past. Stop limiting God to your past and start looking forward to what new thing he is going to do!

We limit God in our relationships. Have you or are you currently in a rocky relationship? Maybe it’s your spouse or a family member? Maybe a friend betrayed you? I don’t know what it is, but I do know that if God is who he says he is then he fully able to restore and reconcile relationships. Have you given up on seeing restoration happen? Perhaps that is because you put God in a box.

We limit God with our thoughts. What kind of thoughts do you have during the day? If you really knew just how big God was would you be having different thoughts and perhaps dreaming bigger dreams? It’s time to change your thought life!

The list could go on and on. We limit who God is. We limit what God can do. We limit God’s ability to heal and provide. We limit God’s ability to answer prayer. We put God in a box and meanwhile let the enemy control every thought, action and word that comes out of our mouth. Enough is enough!

Let me just remind you that if you truly had a revelation of who your Father was you would understand that he doesn’t need to be limited, especially when he is an unlimited God. So if you find that you can relate to many of the statements mentioned above, then read what scripture says about him! The more you understand who he is, the more you will understand what he is capable of doing, which by the way, is everything! And when you understand he is capable of everything then you will have no reason to ever limit him.

It’s time to take God out of his box! It’s time to realize you have an unlimited God. There is something that can keep him back from doing all that he wants to do and that something is you! Repent from having a poverty, worldly mindset and instead seek an abundant, kingdom mindset. And whatever you do, stop limiting your amazing, generous and big God!

Thank you for this powerful post, Caroline! It’s so important to pray big : ) and not limit our prayers ‘just in case’ God doesn’t answer them the way we want Him too. Blessings to you x

I love this Caroline! And…I needed to hear it too! It especially hit home when you said, “Repent from having a poverty, worldly mindset and instead seek an abundant, kingdom mindset. And whatever you do, stop limiting your amazing, generous and big God!” I never realized how much I have lived with a poverty mindset until recently. Your post reiterated what the Lord has been speaking to my heart. Thank you, sweet sister in Christ!
