06 Feb What Are You Beholding?
Recently I was sharing a frustrating situation with my husband, Colby. His immediate response was, “Are you going to look away from it or are you going to behold and become it?”
Colby’s response to my frustration left me with nothing else to say. It wasn’t what I wanted to hear, but he was right. I am so thankful for a husband like Colby and many other friends in my life that would have responded the same way. Without their voice of truth, I wouldn’t be who I am.
You too face situations every day in which you can choose to look away from or you can choose to focus on and eventually become. It can be a difficult relationship where you focus on the negativity and therefore become the bitterness. It can be an ailment where you focus on the pain and problem and therefore become the sickness. It could be debt that is piled up where you focus on the bills and therefore your poverty increases.
You become what you behold. You also become what you focus on, what you watch, what you listen to and who you hang out with. If you want to become more like Jesus, he is what you will need to behold.
2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
Each of us can behold the glory of the Lord and we can do this by following what 2 Corinthians 3:16 says, “But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. When you turn to the Lord, you will behold his glory. And as you look, turn to, and pursue him, you will be transformed into his image. Isn’t that a beautiful thought?
It’s time to turn to the Lord! It’s time to stop beholding your problems, sickness, hardships and start beholding the glory of the Lord! If you want to become like him, you are going to have to start focusing on him! What do you need to turn away from? What are you going to behold?
