Your Inheritance in Christ
Would you be excited if someone gave you a $100,000 check? I will assume that your answer is yes. But what about if you denied the check? Or maybe you went as far to accepting the check, but never deposited it? Do you realize that is what most Christians do in the Spiritual realm?
Let me back up. Let’s first discuss exactly what an inheritance is. An inheritance is something, like land or money, that is inherited by someone. What has to happen to receive an inheritance? Well, usually someone has to die. For example, when a parent passes, the inheritance is left to the child.
Do you realize that when Jesus died on the cross he left an inheritance for you? I know what you might be thinking, “yes, my ticket to heaven is my inheritance.” If that is what you are thinking, then you are correct. But, God didn’t send his son just so you could go to heaven when you die. He didn’t send his son just to save you from your sins. He is such a loving and gracious Father, that he sent his son so that you could access so much more.
Yes, what I am telling you is that God sent his son to die for way more than just your ticket to heaven. Way more! Becoming a Christian isn’t just about salvation and a free pass to heaven. And if you have thought that way, can I tell you something? You are missing out!
Ephesians 1:11-14 says, “we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”
So what all does this inheritance on earth include? Well first and foremost it includes a relationship with your heavenly Father. Yes, you have the privilege to have a friendship with the very One who made you. Isn’t that beautiful? And in addition you have access to “every spiritual blessing in Christ” Ephesians 1:3. Notice this verse says every. It doesn’t say some. it doesn’t say few. It says every spiritual blessing! The word blessing in Greek is eulogia which means benefit. In other words, “every spiritual benefit.” If you move forward with reading the rest of Ephesians 1, it outlines the benefits of the inheritance. For example, he has predestined you to the spirit of adoption, he has freely given you grace, he has redeemed and forgiven you. That just barely touches the surface so I encourage you to read the full chapter on your own.
And what about the rest of the Bible? Guess what, his word is his will and his will are promises for you. That means when he says he will provide, then his provision is part of your inheritance. When he says he heals, his healing is part of your inheritance. When he says he will protect, then his protection is part of your inheritance. When he says he will supply all your needs? Guess what! That too is your inheritance.
The list could go on and on. Freedom? It’s for you! Healing? it’s for you! Hope? It’s for you! Peace? It’s for you! Forgiveness? It’s for you! And I haven’t even mentioned the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) or the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 11:2-3). I have barely skimmed the surface of all that belongs to you, here on earth! If you want to know what is included in your full inheritance, I encourage you to open up the Word and start reading! Everything in his Word is your full inheritance. In addition, when you have the revelation that you are adopted, who your Father is and who God says you are, then you will also understand more of what all your inheritance includes.
Remember, you have full access to all the things of the Kingdom, but it’s up to you to access it! You didn’t have to earn the inheritance. But it is up to you to deposit the check. So my question for you is, have you deposited any or all of what he left you? It’s not too late to cash in!
