Letter to My Future “Mom” Self

Dear Caroline,

Can you believe it? Can you believe the Lord blessed you with your children and you are now a mom? You longed for this since you were a little girl and your dream finally came true all because of the Lord’s grace and blessings upon your life.

God did abundantly more than you could ask or imagine, huh? I know you couldn’t see it then, but He had good plans for you all along. He always does and He always will. He knew the exact day you would find out you were pregnant and the exact day your babies would enter this world. He knows all the details. Just as He did along your journey of waiting, He wants to continue to shower you with His grace and goodness.

The whole time you waited to become pregnant, the Lord was preparing you for motherhood. I know there were days you didn’t know if you could wait one more day, but I bet you can now agree it was totally worth the wait, right? Everything He taught you over the years of waiting was for this season. He was refining you to be a better mom. He was teaching you patience and reliance on Him. He created you for such a time as this, but you will need to continue to rely on His strength each and every day as you parent every one of your children.

You might think that since you had such a hard and long journey to get to this place you can’t have hard days or admit how difficult it is to be a mom. That isn’t true. Give yourself grace just as the Lord gives you. Don’t compare yourself to other moms and remember you won’t be a perfect mom. You will mess up. You will cry. You will lose your patience and you will be tired. It’s going to be hard. But, what is most important is that you forgive yourself, love your children well, and that you share Christ with each of them.

Your children are chosen and set apart. God brought them here supernaturally and has specific plans for each one. Make sure to tell them each and every day that they are miracles sent from above. When they go through trials, they will need to cling to the same faithful and loving God who brought them into this world. I know you always imagined what an amazing testimony you would have one day, but it wasn’t just for you. It was for your children too. Because of their story, they will never doubt God as their Savior and King.

Your children are blessed to have you and Colby as their parents and although they will never understand all the heartache, tears, and pain you went through while you waited on them, know that God saw all the ups and downs and He is so proud of you for never giving up. Congrats on becoming a mom!

The one believing in your miracle

Love it! I’ll share it! (Also, I’m pretty sure you wrote a post in the past several months about how it’s nothing but Jesus that’s going to bring about your pregnancy – not nutrition, not medical stuff, not xyz. I haven’t been able to find it on your blog so if you know what I’m talking about could you send it my way? Thanks!)

I teared up at this. I’m so sorry that you’re struggling, but this letter is such a great idea. I especially like the part where you remind yourself that it will be okay to have tough days and get frustrated. I will say a prayer for you too that you and your husband are able to conceive when you’re supposed to. You will be a wonderful mom.

This is a beautiful letter to your future mom self. I especially love that you plan on giving yourself grace. I struggle with that sometimes with my last daughter because she is the surviving twin and I feel guilty when feeling overwhelmed with her toddler antics. I praise God everyday that He gave me grace by allowing me to keep one of my twins but motherhood can be hard sometimes. I pray that you get to read this letter soon whenever you do it will be perfect timing because it’s His timing.

I wish I could have a time machine to talk to myself while I was in that waiting phase. There was a lot of good I could have done, but I wasted a lot of time worrying instead. Each season has a purpose and it’s up to us to trust God and make the most of it.

You should listen to the song Pray For You by Dan and Shay. I just heard it for the first time and I listen to it every day. I just discovered your page and cannot get enough of your writing. It feels so good to know I’m not alone.

These letters are so encouraging and helpful. The part you wrote about this journey not just being our testimony but also one for our future children was extremely insightful-I had never thought about that before and I love it. Hoping for an opportunity to share it with any children God chooses to bless us with.
