19 Apr National Infertility Awareness Week – Changing the Conversation

Today kicks off National Infertility Awareness Week, which as stated in the name is a week to bring awareness to infertility. The theme for this year is “Changing the Conversation” and the purpose of the theme is to raise awareness about infertility issues. However, my heart is to change the conversation in a completely different way.

Changing the Conversation

I want to change the conversation for National Infertility Awareness Week by focusing on the truth from God’s Word instead of statistics and facts. As a reminder there is a big difference between the “truth” and “facts.” The truth is what God’s Word says; the facts are what your circumstances say.

The truth is:

Infertility is not who you are. It’s not a label you should ever live by or declare over yourself. Jesus paid way too high of a price for you to be bound to a diagnosis of infertility or a label of “infertile.”

You are a daughter (or son) of the King. This is your identity. Everything about your future, including how you see yourself and your situation, should be filtered through this truth.

Infertility doesn’t have to rule you, ruin you or consume you. It doesn’t have to be all you think about, talk about or all you care about. It doesn’t have to ruin your marriage, end all your friendships or leave you hopeless.

Motherhood shouldn’t be your idol.

Although you didn’t want your life to look this way, this season can be one of the most beautiful seasons of your life if you choose to seek the Father, more than a baby.

God wants to be for you what no baby ever can.

The only way you will find true contentment is when you surrender it all to the Lord.

You don’t have to merely just survive, but you, and your marriage, can thrive throughout the journey to expanding your family.

God is not punishing you. He didn’t give you this diagnosis of infertility. He didn’t cause your miscarriage either.

God has the final say, not the doctors or anyone else.

You can live a life full of joy and peace now. You don’t have to wait until there is a baby in your arms.

As you grieve, God wants to comfort you.

A baby won’t heal you. Only Jesus can.

God wants to fulfill the desire He has put in your heart. He wants to make you a joyful mother of children.

So this year? I’m changing the conversation for National Infertility Awareness Week to what I know to be true from God’s Word. I’m excited to join you in declaring that God has the final say, not the doctors or anyone else. I’m excited to speak over you that you are fertile and fruitful and remind you that God makes the barren woman a joyful mother of children. And I’m excited to remind you that you are adopted into the Kingdom and the only thing that can and should define you is what God says about you!

This might not be what you expected to read about Infertility Awareness Week, but I’ll be honest, sharing the truth is what matters most to me. It matters way more than all the statistics or politics around the topic.
