Why We Haven’t Done Fertility Treatments

Why haven't we done fertility treatments in due time blog ivf christian

The most common question I have received over the past 10 years of trying to expand our family is, “Why haven’t you done fertility treatments?”

I answered this question over on instagram a few weeks ago but decided to include it as a blog post so I can easily point people here when they ask.

This will be a short post because our answer to the question is very straight forward. Simply put, the Lord hasn’t told us to and we would rather be led by Him in important decisions than have a baby. Obedience is our first priority.

Could we act independently and pursue fertility treatments even though the Father hasn’t given us the green light? Well of course, but we believe disobedience and taking matters into our own hands will lead us to birthing an Ishmael, which is not what we want. We want an Isaac and we believe we will receive our Isaac when we partner up with God and put our trust in Him instead of trying to write our own story.

There are a few more reasons that I want to share with you. One being that we don’t have a peace about it and we refuse to make a decision without peace being what leads us.

Those are my spiritual answers, but here is one from the natural, fully realizing this statement would not matter if the Lord said to pursue fertility treatments….

Our situation is literally impossible. It takes a minimum of one egg and one sperm to do fertility treatments, and we do not have that, therefore it’s not an option we are looking into.

A follow-up question we receive is usually, “well what if the Lord tells you tomorrow to pursue fertility treatments?” and with that I would tell you….. we would do it! Just like if He told us to adopt tomorrow, we would do that.

One last thought I want to share with you and that is this…

When one asks us this question it makes an assumption that pregnancy is more likely to happen with fertility treatments, but Colby and I don’t believe that is true. We believe God’s Word and taking communion are the most powerful medications there are. His Word and blood carry great power and bring healing and life. We don’t believe that fertility treatments are the end all be all to conceiving a baby.
