My 11th Triathlon

my 11th triathlon race recap

This past Sunday I competed in my 11th triathlon. This was my 4th time to do this same race course and it might be my favorite because this is the 3rd year we have done this race as a family. My dad, my brother, Colby and myself all competed with the rest of our family cheering us on.

I had been fighting a cold over the course of the week and by Saturday my throat was feeling so much better, but I was still coughing quite a bit. I wasn’t sure how I would feel racing, especially since I hadn’t had any physical activity over the week. Prior to last week, I had only swam 3x in the past 9 months, biked 3x in the past 9 months and ran a hand full of times. I have never trained well for a race, but this goes down in history as being the least prepared. My 11th Triathlon Recap My 11th Triathlon Recap

This was a sprint triathlon which consists of a 300m swim, 9 mi bike and 5K run. Considering how stuffed up my nose was, I felt like the swim went pretty well. My swim was the top 11% of all female swimmers and top 20% of all swimmers. My bike and run, neither of which are my strong point were both basically right in the middle (50%). Remember how I have complained about my bike the past 10 races? Well, my back was in pain about a mile in because I still have not gotten it fitted and no, there is no one to blame but myself. On the run, I had a stitch in my side and held my sides with my hands the whole way, but I was determined not to walk, and I didn’t.

Overall, considering my health and lack of training, I was actually happy with how I did. I was 4 minutes slower than the past 3 years since my time has always been basically the same, finishing at 1:08. When it comes down to a triathlon, 4 minutes is actually a lot, but you know what? I finished! Oh and should I mention, I beat Colby!

It’s always fun having the family out there cheering us on and I think everyone had a fun time. I currently am not registered for any other races for this year, but might look up to see what other races are coming up.

This is inspiring! I’m training for my first Sprint triathlon now and it’s been such a learning experience. I like pushing myself and reaching goals, so it has been exciting for me. I don’t think I could do a race without training, though. High five to you for that endeavor. Lol
