Guest Post: Jesus is the answer to barrenness!

To say I am very honored to have Nerida Walker posting today is an understatement. She is a speaker and author who has taught the word to so many as they wait for their breakthrough from barrenness to pregnancy. Her and her husband were told they wouldn’t have kids, but now have 4 – another beautiful testimony to God’s faithfulness!  I found her site and her book, God’s Plan for Pregnancy, last year and was extremely encouraged. Her book spoke so much truth and her website and youtube videos have helped me so much over the past year. We used her book for our Moms in the Making group. I strongly encourage everyone who is waiting for their breakthrough to read it. Thank you Nerida for sharing with us today!

Do you struggle to know God’s will in your fertility struggles? Or do you struggle to know how He will answer your prayers? Don’t worry because you are not alone!

Many believers struggle to know God’s will for their life, especially in the area of fertility and whether it is His will for them to have children. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is a lack of understanding of our New Covenant. However when we know what Jesus purchased for us on the Cross then God’s will is then easy to determine. Its simple – God’s will for all who believe in Him is what He has already provided through Jesus finished work of the Cross!

Similarly, if you are struggling to know God’s answer to your personal fertility prayers then that answer is also very simple to determine. It’s straightforward when you know who the Father is! His very nature and character is to provide. In fact, one of His redemptive names, or titles, is Jehovah Jireh, which simply means ‘the Lord our provider’. However when translated from Hebrew this title should more correctly read ‘the Lord has seen and provided an offering’. We know this to be already true because from the foundation of the world, God in His infinite wisdom and foreknowledge foresaw the fall of man, so He made the provision of Jesus as the one off offering to redeem mankind and the fallen world. 1 Peter 1:20 says  He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you ”

The Good News is that through Jesus not only did God redeem mankind from the effects of the fall, but at the same time and in the same manner He provided for every area of life. So before we ever had a need God foresaw and fore-responded by sending His son into the world to be the answer and solution to everything we would face. This means that God has already seen and already responded to every need you will ever face through what He did through the finished work of the Cross. Therefore all your fertility prayers have already been answered! The answer is not ’no’ or ’wait’ BUT is ALWAYS YES in Jesus!

2 Corinthians 1:20 NLT For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

I cannot stress enough that when it comes to your own life, especially regarding fertility struggles, that you never judge God’s will or God’s answer to prayer on the grounds of your own or on others personal circumstances. Our natural circumstances differ greatly BUT God’s answer and solution is always the same, and that is what Jesus has done for you. Therefore, if you personally want to know if it’s God’s will for you to prosper in the fruit of your womb, or whether it is to have one baby or to have a family of children, the answer is always JESUS! And because of what Jesus has already done on the Cross, in Him that answer is always YES!

Now with that said, when it comes to fertility struggles it is so easy to get caught up in our own ability trying to make the breakthrough manifest. We chart, we plan and we watch the time! There are many natural, self-help and medical methods and things you can do to assist your body to reproduce. There is nothing wrong with a lot of these things as long as you don’t become obsessive or trust in them alone. More often than not, if you need healing in your body or a miracle then what you do in the natural realm wil not bring that to pass. So if your circumstances are like mine were and there are no natural or medical options available, then the fact is there is nothing you can do in your own power that will help. While this may leave you feeling hopeless and out of control, this is actually the best place to be, because the supernatural power of God is not released by your might nor byyour power but by the Spirit of God!

I know how difficult and painful it can be when you see the months passing by with no change to your natural circumstances. While you may have been able to stop trying to make things happen in your own natural ability, the next challenge is to not become self-focused. I say this because it is very easy to start analyzing your life and become introspective. You start to judge your performance and yourself by looking at what you could be missing or doing wrong either naturally or spiritually – or both. But this focus still places the breakthrough upon your own natural ability and not upon Jesus and His finished work.

Always remember that our New Covenant is a Covenant of faith – not of works, which means that it is not based upon our natural works or self-effort. Faith always rests in God’s ability and not in our own. However, so many believers have misunderstood faith, so they struggle with trying to build themselves up and with putting their faith to work. However all this does is wear them out and keep them trapped focusing on their own performance. Faith and living by faith is simple. Think about it! Having faith in God is all about trusting in and resting in His ability and not in your own. If you are looking to your faith and to your performance then you are actually doubting God and trusting in your own ability.

Hebrews 12:2-3 MSG Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

Jesus suffered and bore the weight of and the consequences of the sin of mankind so that we could partake in His victory over sin and all its consequences! When you understand what the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus purchased and provided for you then you will know that in Him you already have everything you need for your breakthrough.

What I have shared here with you may seem like a very simple word of encouragement but the powerful truth is that Jesus is the answer to barrenness and every fertility struggle you will ever face!  So next time you are discouraged remind yourself that every answer is found in Jesus. In Him and through faith in Him you already have been given everything you need. Also remind yourself that what He did on the Cross was enough for you. It was a perfect, complete and finished work, which means that there is nothing left for you to do except to believe and trust in Him. Therefore, I encourage you to spend time in Him so that He can reveal this truth to you and lead you every step of the way in how to draw your hope and strength from Him. This will all help you to learn how to rest in His supernatural ability and not in your own and the rest will be history!

    Please to meet you Nerida!

Jesus is the answer to everything! Praise God!

I had a brief (nine month) struggle with bareness. At that time I wasn’t saved and it was a very lonely journey. Thanks for sharing these truths here today.

A friend once told me that she truly believes God doesn’t give us desires he doesn’t intend to fulfill.
Maybe others will find that comforting.

Hey Caroline. I was so excited to read your blog today. I found Nerida Walker on Youtube about 6 months ago. Nerida, with the anointing of the Lord, has completely change our perspective on our journey through infertility ( I hate to use that term because I am NOT infertile). I read recently that you and your husband changed churches, and that has been pivotal change in your walk with the Lord. My husband have done the same. We officially started going to Elevation 3 years ago in January, but we haven’t been faithful in our attendance until this summer (long story). I say all that to say, the Lord has used our church, and Nerida Walker to change my relationship with Him, and my thoughts on infertility. We have been walking this journey for almost 9 years. But, for just about every one of those years, i have in some form or fashion tried to control having a baby. The one time I stepped away, and truly let God have control, He brought our daughter through a friend of a friend at 5 weeks old, and we were able to adopt her. I have started speaking the word of God daily over my marriage, my daughter & my body. I especially love Exodus 23:25-26. I have a peace & confidence in my heart that I haven’t had in years (not since shortly after I got saved 13 1/2 years ago…way before I tried to start having children). My husband has always believed I would get pregnant, but he wasn’t sure when, or how (naturally or medically). After sharing with him the Youtube videos and parts of God’s Plan for Pregnancy, we are both on the same page, and excited for what God is doing in our lives, and our soon to be baby/ies. I was also excited to see when I followed your link to Moms in the Making to see that you had read Pregnancy with Hope. I lead an eGroup (small group) through my church, a fertility group, and we have read Pregnant with Hope. Actually, we’re reading it for the 2nd time then our plan is to read God’s Plan for Pregnancy. Thanks so much for sharing today. I was super excited…if you couldn’t tell 🙂

I’m 42, never married and have no kids! I desire to be married and have kids! I struggle greatly with God’s timing because I never imagined my life being this way! I feel forgotten by God and I feel bad for thinking that way! I just feel life is passing me by! I truly pray for breakthrough and a miracle!

    Dear Kirsten,
Don’t give up. You have your whole life ahead of you. God can change your life in a fraction of a second and provide the husband and children you long for. Pray for revelation of how much God loves you. Think joyful thoughts. Each morning meditate on your favorite, empowering scripture. For example Luke 1:37, For with God nothing is impossible. Finally, take the focus off your worries by getting out and giving as much joy as possible to those who need it. Your spirit will be filled.
May God bless you with His powerful, passionate, all-encompassing love,

Reading Nerida’s book “God’s Plan for Pregnancy” a few years ago was completely life-transforming for me. I grew up in the church but this was the first time I heard that God died not only to save us from our sins but to give us victory over every curse. Suddenly all sorts of verses made so much more sense to me! I’m so thankful to Nerida for sharing what God taught her so that we can all live under God’s promises and believe for our babies. That said, it’s been a hard season watching month after month pass and still no pregnancy. We do believe that God will be faithful but after 3.5 years of waiting, it can be hard to not want to start taking matters into your own hands, you know?
