5 Year Engagementversary

Five years ago today Colby and I got engaged. {10.23.10} I love celebrating and reminiscing on days likes these. While it might seem silly to some to celebrate engagement, first dates, etc, I believe that when you are going through trials the best thing to do is to seek the positive things in life and one of those things for me is the blessing of our marriage.

What a fun day to look back on! When I think about that our engagement day, my mind goes back to a state of shock. To say I was surprised was an understatement. We have lots of pictures and videos that show my reaction (thanks to the hidden photo/videographers). Don’t worry, I narrowed it down from the 900 pictures we got that day and am just sharing a handful.

For college I attended Baylor and Colby went to Kansas State so months before we had decided to go to the Baylor v. Kansas State football game, which also happened to be Baylor’s homecoming. We drove down early in the day to walk around campus, look at the homecoming floats, and take our time before the game started.

Colby was being very adamant about telling me where to go which is very out of character for him. He is usually easy going, patient, and has a very go with the flow personality. I started questioning him, including asking why he was wearing his nice shoes for a football game. After he walked me to a very pretty area of campus, he began telling me how much he loved me, started talking about the future, and proceeded to share more mushy stuff. I was not interested in having the conversation at the time and couldn’t figure out why he was bringing up serious topics at such a random time, but before I knew it he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Despite the fact that the one knee is CODE for proposal, it took awhile to register what was going on. I’m not sure at what point it hit me, but I finally said YES. Two of our friends came out from behind the bushes and we continued to walk around campus as they took pictures.

But, the surprises were not over. There was a limo waiting for Colby and I. We enjoyed a ride together with some champagne while I continued to hyperventilate and process. Before I knew it, we had arrived at an area to pick up all of my friends. Apparently he had emailed them weeks in advance to let them know what he was up to and that he would be buying football tickets for all those who could attend. The football game got delayed because of a VERY major storm so we continued to ride around and celebrate in the limo. We were all soaked, but after the limo ride got to eat at a favorite restaurant and attend the game. To top it off Baylor beat KSU to became bowl eligible (which was a big deal for Baylor at the time).

The celebration continued the next day with more friends and both sets of our parents! Colby spent months planning including driving down the prior week to scope out the spot, being sneaky to buy the ring, and talking to my parents. What a fun day to remember!! God is good!

This is the sweetest story! You should celebrate days like that. I never remember our engagementversary (even now I can’t think of the exact date!), but my MIL reminds me every year 🙂

Aww….what a wonderful day and such precious memories! You two were absolutely made for each other, without a doubt. You look so happy…you are just glowing!! God knew what your journey would look like when He made you for one another and brought you together. This is just so sweet to look back and trace His hand in all of this. Wow, I am so impressed with Colby’s planning and how all of your friends kept it quiet!! He must have put so much time into making it a perfect day for you…what a dear blessing!! Being married to the one God specifically made for you and walking hand-in-hand with Jesus and one another through this life is absolutely the sweetest, most peace-filled life there is. Kevin and I have been married for 27 years, and I can honestly say, it just gets sweeter with time. The longer you are together, the more one you become. God will see you and your marriage through the dark times, if you will always pull towards Him and lean into one another….we are living proof. Congratulations on your wonderful engagementversary!!! I hope you all do something really special to celebrate today!!! Thank you for sharing your sweet story here!!

I love it!!! Our engagement was pretty epic as well. Glenn had it planned for several months. Our church used to do an activity at the beginning of every service called “Subject In The Sack” where the kids would come to the front of the church, and relate an item in the sack to God. Well, Glenn had it worked out where he got to choose the object in the sack, so he and I went up there and were leading it with the kids. The item was a fortune cookie, and little did I know, it was a custom cookie with the proposal printed on the paper! I opened it and read it, totally didn’t even understand what was going on, and then I saw him down on one knee in front of our entire church. I was so embarrassed, HA!! But also so excited that he choose to do this in front of our church, and in front of all of the children. It was awesome to get to share that moment with all of those people.

You guys are so cute! What a great idea for a proposal. And I love that you guys hung out with friends after. So fun! We got engaged at Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. It was a total dream. Our engagement-versary is 3 days before our anniversary so we don’t celebrate it, but it is Cinco de May so I guess it’s always a celebration.
    Have a great weekend dear!

Oh my gosh I LOVE this Caroline! So this is random but I met you like 6-7 days after that at Justin’s Halloween party. I remember that y’all were the cute couple that had just gotten engaged! So fun that you got engaged at Baylor and that we beat KSU :-p And Colby is the best for inviting all of your friends down to celebrate!

I just got married on 9.26.15 but I’m a huge believer in celebrating all our milestones. We might not do anything huge for each one but each day is special to us and played a part in our journey to where we are now.

I was laughing about the part of your engagement when he was wanting to have a conversation at the time and you didn’t want to at that moment because that was so much like my husband & I. It was Christmas time, he proposed in our living room, in front of our tree. He was standing there in front of it just talking about how pretty it was and all the ornaments. My mind was blown and I was a little irritated because I was ready to leave to go look at Christmas lights then he got down on one knee and it all made sense and I felt a little bad for being irritated with him.

Moral of the story? When men act out of character something big is about to happen!

So so cute! I love that he put all that effort into planning the limo and everything. What a sweetie! 🙂 My husband planned a similar day and the icing on the cake for me was that he flew out my two best friends to surprise me and photograph the proposal. It’s so fun to look back on that season of life and remember it all! 🙂

Happy Engagementversary! You guys are so stinking cute!! It’s funny how we girls can sometimes second guess those scenarios instead of just rolling with it lol. I can’t wait to see how God continues to use and bless you like you’ve blessed so many others!

Happy Engagement Anniversary! Really liked this post it’s so important to remember in the storms of life to celebrate those victories.

We got engaged on top of Sugar Loaf mountain at sunset in Rio de Janeiro one windy day in July. Yes, we try to celebrate all our firsts. Sometimes it’s easier said than done with little ones but we still try to make the little moments count.

How nice! Marriage is such a blessing indeed! We get to really savor the moment when two people are actually committed and treat marriage as something sacred. How funny, many women on the other hand, jump the gun when they see one knee bent from their man and automatically think of a proposal coming, but instead, he ends up doing something else! Many comedies and commercials are born from that concept 🙂 Blessings to you and your husband!

I love this line “while I continued to hyperventilate and process” hahaha! Yes, we’re married 😉 We got engaged one year to the minute later from when he’d asked me out. I wasn’t surprised & it wasn’t very romantic or spectacular, but that’s not everything, right?? We don’t celebrate our engagmentversary, but I like the idea!! Any reason to celebrate each other is a good reason, I think! 🙂
