Colorado Ski Trip #3

A portion of this trip was provided at a discount, but all opinions and tips expressed are honest.

Colby and I Just got back from a 5 day trip to Colorado. This was our 3rd year in a row to visit Beaver Creek and we had a blast. The weather was gorgeous and many commented on how “warm” it was for this time of the year, even though being from Texas, I was still cold. The last day of skiing we got hit hard with the snow, as you can see in the pictures below and the area ended up getting 9 inches that night. Besides skiing, we ate some delicious food and went snowmobiling, walked around town and relaxed, a lot! I have recapped all the fun things we did over the weekend below.

Day 2 – Snowmobiling

We had a very busy day, starting with getting our lift tickets and then driving over to Heeney, which is near Silverthorn, where we went snowmobiling with High Country Tours. Neither Colby or I had gone snowmobiling before, but we both had a blast. We took the scenic 2 hour tour so we spent most of the time driving around to get gorgeous views of Coloardo. Half way through we got to stop for hot chocolate and then the last portion of the tour we were able to race on a “track” which was super fun. Our guide was great. His main priority was our safety, but he made sure we had fun too. The great thing was he was willing to take as many pictures as we wanted and considering I love pictures, I was so thankful. They also had the gear for us to wear there, including helmets, snowsuits, and shoes.

Ski Rental

That afternoon we picked up our rentals using rentskis.com and had some of the friendliest team help us out. When I looked up the locations, it seemed there was a location every few miles, including just feet away from our condo, so it couldn’t have been any more convenient. When we first walked in, they looked so busy, but thankfully, the staff was super efficient and friendly and we were out in no time. We were even talked into getting helmets, which was new to us. We realized while skiing that 98% were wearing them, so we were glad to be wearing them too.

Dinner at Vista at Arrowhead

That evening we walked to dinner at the Vista at Arrowhead. We got there in time to take pictures of the stunning view on their balcony. I imagine this restaurant gives the best views year round, because I can assume summer is just as beautiful. Since we got there a little early we also were able to enjoy time by the fire, before being seated at our table right next to the window, which enabled us to enjoy the view until the sun set. Colby thoroughly enjoyed his steak and I did something a little different and had a vegetarian meal, which was delicious. We also ordered appetizers and the dessert sampler and each got a very delicious cocktail. After we finished our meal we went over to the other section of the restaurant to enjoy the piano player who we found out plays at the Vista every night. He was so talented and even played Sweet Caroline for me. Overall we loved our dinner here, the service was great, the food was delicious and the views couldn’t be beaten.

Day 3 + 4 + 5 – Ski Day

We skied for 3 days and had so much fun. Colby was a little rusty at first, but by day 3, he was flying down the mountain. The weather was beautiful and on the last day it started snowing pretty heavily after lunch. It made for very unpleasant skiing, but I was determined to get to 33K vertical feet before quitting and that we did. We totaled 88K vertical feet over the 3 days. The past few years that we have gone skiing I realize truly just how much I love it! I also loved our daily hot chocolate drinks and going to the hot tub each day.

Day 6 – Beaver Creek – Denver – DFW

We took it easy in the morning before heading over to Beaver Creek Village to walk around. We then packed our things and headed back towards Denver where we went to the Crown Hill Park, grabbed dinner and headed towards the airport for our flight home.
